About Me
© Sean Crocker, 2009
Name: Kristen Michele Klimo
Age:22
Majors: Genetics and Life Science Communication
In words: At the beginning of the semester our Professor, Ahna Skop, encouraged us to take advantage of 23andMe to find something interesting in our own genome to use for the project. The results of my snip analysis were resounding: my genes are quite boring. Not that I was hoping for some scary predisposition or anything, just something unique that hadn't already been researched. I found nothing.
Beyond that I will be graduating from the UW in almost exactly one week, which is a little intimidating but I'm very excited to take a break from school. I don't want to say I'll never go back, at the risk of being called a liar sometime in the future. My outside interests include photography, reading, writing, scrapbooking and dance. I also love traveling.

My Inspiration
Since I didn't have anything interesting for myself, I still wanted to focus on a gene that actually impacted someone I know. One of my very good friends here at UW-Madison, Kelsey, has Nystagmus, and she's been my inspiration for this project.
Kelsey will be a senior in the fall of 2012 majoring in psychology. She's passionate about her dog Rajah, running anything from a 5K to a 50 mile ultramarathon, grilled cheese, Badger football and probably most importantly, Serious Fun Camps, which gives critically ill children a chance to, as they say, "raise a little hell." Kelsey worked at The Painted Turtle the summer of 2011, and I know she can't wait to get back there this year.
